ITTIMATHULLA SENIOR - Founder of the Illikattil family

The Illikattil family is now spread across many countries around the world. Ittimathulla Senior comes from the Mullassery family in Chungam, Thodupuzha. Around the year 1775 (ME 950 Malayalam Calendar), Ittimathulla Senior purchased a house called Illikattil from an Ezhavan (half a hectare of land) for ten panam (one and a half rupees) and settled there. Ittimathulla Senior's mother belongs to the Nellikuzhiyil family in Piravom.

ITTIMATHULLA Senior was a good farmer. He married Elisa of the Moolakkattu family in Kudakkachira near Uzhavoor. They had a son named POTHEN.

POTHEN married Anna, of the Chazhikattu family in veliyannore near Uzhavoor. Anna is the sister of Chazhikattu Kurian Kathanar (Priest). Pothen became an Ayurvedic medical practitioner under the guidance and instruction of an Ezhava Ayurvedic physician by name Ittindan who was very renowned in purappuzha and surroundings.

Pothen’s marriage with Anna had two children, one a son name Ittimathulla Junior and the other a daughter named Elisa. Pothen was a skilled Ayurvedic physician with good knowledge, especially in treating illnesses affecting eyes. He was also very proficient in treating venomous snake bites. He was a man well versed in carpentry, and also good at mathematics.

Pothen son ITTIMATHULLA Junior (Also called him POTHEN) and daughter ELISA

ELISA was married into the Kallel Puthenpurayil. There is no such family by name existent now in Marika. Since the families like Myalkarapuram, Vengachuvattil and Patharikara etc. later branched off from it.

Pothen’s son Ittimathulla Junior followed the legacy of his father in Ayurvedic Medicine. His efficacy in treating illnesses prevalent at that time was quite recognized by the people at that time.

Ittimathulla Junior married twice. He married first ITTINA Puthanpurayil of the Madhavakkara family. In his first marriage, Mathulla had only one son and he was called Mathai alias Pothen.

When ITTINA died, Ittimathulla Junior remarried Mariam, the daughter of Edattukunnel Thomman, in Uzhavoor. In this second marriage ITTIMATULLA Junior had three more sons namely THOMMEN, KURUVILLA, and PHILIPPOS and a daughter by name Kochiriyam.

MATHAI (Ittimathulla Junior's son from first marriage) - Fourth Generation

Ittimathulla Junior’s son Mathai, from his first marriage married Achu, the daughter of Uthup Marikaveetil in Marika. Together they had three children, a son named Uthup and two daughters who were called Mundi and Mariam respectively.

Mathai's son UTHUP married from Mundathanam family that belonged to the Uzhavoor Parish. Uthup died with no children.

Mathai's oldest daughter MUNDI was married to Mathan from the cherkkala family in Uzhavoor. This couple had a son named Mathan and a daughter named Annamma. Annamma's children Lawrence, Mary, Valsa and Lissy now live in America.

The second daughter MARIAM was married to Pothen of Kottiyanikkara family in Monipally.

Ittimathulla Junior’s third son Kuruvilla married from a family named Madathamcheril from Marika .

Ittimathulla Junior’s youngest son Philippos moved to Ennolikkara in the Marika area. He had two sons named Mathai (Matha) and Chacko and two daughters named Aley and Mariam.

KURUVILLA (Ittimathulla Junior’s son from second marriage) - Fourth Generation

ULAHANNAN married from Vellanal family of Karimkunnam. Ulahannan continued the Ayurveda medical treatment he had learned from his father and gradually became very popular. He had two sons Kunjepp and Kuruvila and Four daughters Mariamma, Kunjeli, Naitho and Mariachi.

PHILIPOSE (Ittimathulla Junior’s son from second marriage) - Fourth Generation

Ittimathulla Junior's youngest son, PHILIPOSE, moved to Marika and settled in Ennolikara. He had two sons, Mathai and Chacko, and two daughters, Aley and Mariam.

Aley was married to Chungam Cheriyil family and Mariam was married to Thamarakkad Pulikkal family.

Mathai had four children, Peeli, Kunjepp, Mariyakutty and Aley. Aley was married to Muthurumbil familyin Areekara. Aley's children all live in Bangalore.

Mathai's son Peeli had two sons, Mattha and Chacko. While Mattha remained in Marika, his brother Chacko chose to migrate to the US. At present Chacko and his family reside in California.

KOCHEERIAM (Ittimathulla Junior’s daughter from second marriage) - Fourth Generation

Ittimathulla Junior's youngest daughter Kocheeryam married to Uthup of the Chakkalakkal family in Monipally. They had three sons, Thomman, Matha, and Itti, and two daughters, Anna and Aley.
