Here after we would call Mathulla Thomman “Thomman (Illikattil) Vaidhyan”. As described above, Thomman Vaidhyan was the oldest son of Ittimathula Junior from his second marriage. He was a man of charisma and as such was very popular not only in the Knanaya community but also among other sector of people in surrounding cities. His skill in Ayurvedic treatment was extensively known in Travancore and obviously it drew a lot of people from many places proximate and remote for his medical consultation. It is said even Patients from Tamil Nadu came to see him for treatment.
Thomman Vaidhyan was a community lover, hard worker and philanthropic. As a community leader, he played prominent role in the local community consisting of various people who belonged to different casts and religions. It was his leadership that led to the construction of the first Knanaya Church in Marika. He could be called the founder of Marika Puthan Palli dedicated to the patronage of St. Anthony. The land up on which the present St Anthony Church built is donated by Thomman Vaidhyan.
As an Ayurvedic physician, he had a collection of Palm leaf manuscripts which are called “THALIYOLA GRANDHAM.” It contains a lot of details regarding the ancient ayurvedic treatments. They are still kept in one of the Illikattil Tarvad families.
Thomman Vaidhyan’s wife was Anna, a member of the Vadakkekkara family in Areekara.
Thomman Vaidhyan passed away on the 27th of December 1939 due to diabetes-related illness.
